Call for pitches: Southeast Asia's 'green energy transition'
We are seeking talented journalists to craft compelling stories on Southeast Asia’s ‘green energy transition’.
Topics of interest
• Renewable energy projects
• Sustainable agriculture practices
• Policies and initiatives for reducing carbon footprint in the region
• Community-led environmental initiatives
• Critical minerals and the energy transition
• Chinese investment in distributed renewable energy
• The limitations of China’s ‘no new coal overseas’ pledge
Context
In recent years, climate-induced disasters, such as heatwaves, droughts and floods have severely impacted Southeast Asia, highlighting and worsening regional inequalities. The COVID-19 pandemic has further emphasised the need for a sustainable development model. This has led to calls for a “green and just recovery” policy agenda.
Requirements
Journalist profile: We prioritise commissioning local journalists with proven experience in environmental journalism. However, we will consider pitches from journalists based in the region with a good track record covering the above issues
Perspective: Stories should emphasise the role of renewable energy in the region
Region: Focus on countries within Southeast Asia – can be one country or multiple
Format: In-depth articles, features, investigative reports, or narrative storytelling.
Length: 1,000-1200 words per article
Pitch deadline: 30 September. Please note we will be assigning/commissioning stories ahead of this date; early submissions are strongly encouraged
NB: We are looking for original story ideas and are unlikely to publish a story that has been covered extensively elsewhere, unless there is a very clear new angle/development.
