However, the station staff told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cq.gov.cn\/zwgk\/zfxxgkml\/zdlyxxgk\/stbh\/hjbh\/202501\/t20250109_14094590.html\">Chongqing Daily<\/a> they still need to carry out manual reviews to prevent errors. The AI system can also detect when large items like furniture are mistakenly disposed of as regular rubbish, issuing immediate alerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While <a href=\"http:\/\/paper.people.com.cn\/zgnyb\/html\/2024-06\/03\/content_26062672.htm\">People\u2019s Daily<\/a> praises AI for improving environmental regulation, its adoption comes with challenges. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cenews.com.cn\/news.html?aid=1114807\">China Environment News<\/a> highlights the high initial investment and operating costs, and the time it takes to build and deploy AI infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are also concerns over energy consumption. AI typically relies on data centres, which account for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/commentaries\/what-the-data-centre-and-ai-boom-could-mean-for-the-energy-sector\">2-4%<\/a> of total electricity consumption in China and other major economies, according to the International Energy Agency. Although AI may not use as much power as electric vehicles or air conditioners, its expansion could still strain local power grids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, AI-driven automation raises concerns for workers. While governments and organisations believe automation boosts productivity, it can also increase hidden workloads for frontline staff, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/stories\/2023\/03\/ai-could-make-more-work-for-us-instead-of-simplifying-our-lives\/\">warns<\/a> the World Economic Forum.
