Shenzhen this week launched an initiative to promote car charging using renewable power, reports<\/a> Xinhua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eleven stations in the south-eastern city offer purely green electricity charging. Vehicle owners can obtain a trade-able Green Electricity Certificate for every 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of power they buy at these stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guangzhou Daily predicts<\/a> the initiative will lead to the consumption of over 14 million kWh of green electricity this year. That’s enough to drive about 70 million km in a typical EV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Business Daily commented<\/a> that the programme will not only incentivise green power consumption but also boost trade in Green Electricity Certificates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

China is encouraging residents to consume renewable power through various measures. A high-level document<\/a> issued in March of this year advised stakeholders to “promote green charging stations and support the use of green electricity by new energy vehicles.”\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
