At the recent United Nations climate talks in Bonn, chinadialogue<\/em> partnered with Environment China, the Beijing Energy Network\u2019s podcast, to produce an episode (in English) discussing China\u2019s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in the context of the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

China\u2019s BRI is an overseas investment and development framework that has grown to include 68 countries. For the countries involved, it is moving to the centre of discussions about how to direct investments away from carbon-intensive industries to clean and sustainable technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this episode, representatives from non-governmental organisations and government officials from the Philippines, Pakistan, and Zambia, weigh in on what Belt and Road means for climate action overseas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The episode then turns to Sam Geall, executive editor at chinadialogue<\/em>, to learn how BRI, as well as China\u2019s South-South Climate Cooperation to provide climate finance to developing countries, fits into its emerging role on the international stage. Sam discusses how China can improve its approach to overseas finance to bring investments in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
