In a number of recent cases, protests by local communities and NGOs have forced Chinese companies and financiers to suspend <a href=\"https:\/\/dialogue.earth\/behind-myanmars-suspended-dam-1\/\">projects in Myanmar<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theecologist.org\/News\/news_analysis\/1667182\/one_of_the_worlds_oldest_tribes_halts_dam_construction.html\">Malaysia<\/a>, and withdraw from Cambodia.<\/p>\n<p>The guide points to progress made by the Chinese dam industry in recent years on paper: Sinohydro has prepared an environmental policy that puts it at the forefront of the international\u00a0hydropower industry; and Chinese government agencies have also issued guidelines for companies investing overseas.
