Snow, glaciers and rainfall from the mountains feed the ten largest river systems in Asia. Countries should come together to share data and undertake more rigorous,\u201d added Molden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The atlas recommends the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/unfccc.int\/2860.php\">United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change<\/a>&nbsp;should initiate a comprehensive assessment of the Himalayan glaciers and river flow to fill the remaining gaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlthough the total amount of water flowing within some of Asia\u2019s biggest rivers such as the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Indus is not expected to decrease until 2050, we can expect higher variability and more floods and droughts,\u201d the report concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cd-article-image aligncenter block--article-image block--article-image--undefined\" itemscope itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\"><div class=\"block--article-image__column\"><div class=\"block--article-image__image\"><img class=\"lazy\" data-src=\"https:\/\/dialogue.earth\/content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Projected_glacial_area_change-2.jpg\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/dialogue.earth\/content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Projected_glacial_area_change-2-768x676.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dialogue.earth\/content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Projected_glacial_area_change-2-1024x901.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/dialogue.earth\/content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Projected_glacial_area_change-2.jpg 1476w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 768px, (max-width: 1024px) 1024px, 1476px\" alt=\"himalayas glaciers loss by 2050 map\"\/><\/div><div class=\"block--article-image__content\"><div itemprop=\"caption\" class=\"block--article-image__caption\">Glacier loss<\/div><\/div><\/div><meta itemprop=\"contentUrl\" content=\"https:\/\/dialogue.earth\/content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Projected_glacial_area_change-2.jpg\"\/><meta itemprop=\"contentSize\" content=\"846 KB\"\/><meta itemprop=\"height\" content=\"1299\"\/><meta itemprop=\"width\" content=\"1476\"\/><meta itemprop=\"author\"\/><meta itemprop=\"representativeOfPage\" content=\"true\"\/><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The report was jointly produced by&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.icimod.org\/\">International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD)<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.grida.no\/\">GRID-Arendal<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cicero.uio.no\/en\">Centre for International Climate and Environmental Research-Oslo (CICERO<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-major-findings\">Major findings:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Temperatures across the mountainous Hindu Kush Himalayan region will increase by about 1\u20132\u00b0C (in some places by up to 4\u20135\u00b0C) by 2050.<\/li><li>Glaciers will continue to suffer substantial ice loss, with the main loss in the Indus basin.<\/li><li>Precipitation will change with the monsoon expected to become longer and more erratic.<\/li><li>Extreme rainfall events are becoming less frequent, but more violent and are likely to increase in intensity.<\/li><li>Communities living immediately downstream from glaciers are the most vulnerable to glacial changes.<\/li><li>Despite overall greater river flow projected, higher variability in river flows and more water in pre-monsoon months are expected, which will lead to a higher incidence of unexpected floods and droughts, greatly impacting on the livelihood security and agriculture of river-dependent people.<\/li><li>Changes in temperature and precipitation will have serious and far-reaching consequences for climate-dependent sectors, such as agriculture, water resources&nbsp;and health.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cd-article-image aligncenter block--article-image block--article-image--undefined\" itemscope itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\"><div class=\"block--article-image__column\"><div class=\"block--article-image__image\"><img class=\"lazy\" data-src=\"https:\/\/dialogue.earth\/content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Natural_disasters_Asia-1.jpg\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/dialogue.earth\/content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Natural_disasters_Asia-1-768x676.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dialogue.earth\/content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Natural_disasters_Asia-1-1024x901.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/dialogue.earth\/content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Natural_disasters_Asia-1.jpg 1476w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 768px, (max-width: 1024px) 1024px, 1476px\" alt=\"natural disaster map.
