missed pollution control targets in 2006"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Sulphur dioxide emissions increased by nearly 463,000 tonnes, 1.8% higher than the previous year, said Fan Yansheng, director of the pollution control department for China&rsquo;s State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA).<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), a water pollution index, also increased by 173,000 tonnes. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>China set a goal of reducing the emissions of major pollutants by 10% during the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010), and the government had sought
