The massive project on the Madeira River is intended to prevent possible energy shortages.<\/p>\n

But the International Herald Tribune reported Amazon experts as warning that by flooding hundreds of square kilometres of one of the
\nAmazon’s most pristine areas, the dams will destroy swaths of the rain forest and its wildlife.<\/p>\n
