The corporation, one of the world’s largest by revenue, could eventually use the data to cut costs by comparing similar suppliers’ efficiency, the report said.<\/p>\n

Wal-Mart will start with a pilot group of about 30 companies, with a view to rolling out the measurement and reporting to its 68,000 suppliers.<\/p>\n

Reporting emissions in this manner will be the first stage towards curbing greenhouse-gas pollution, the report cited Paul Dickinson, chief executive of the Carbon Disclosure Project, a group of institutional investors that pioneered the scheme, as saying.<\/p>\n
