“Bunker fuel is the dirtiest fuel on the planet,” AP reported Teri Shore, campaign director for the marine program at Friends of the Earth, as saying.<\/p>\n

The large container ship, the Cosco Busan, owned by Greek firm Synergy Maritime and chartered to South Korea’s Hanjin Group, left the Port of Oakland early on Wednesday and hit a fender around a support tower of the Bay Bridge on an especially foggy morning.<\/p>\n

The oil has fouled more than 20 beaches and killed dozens of sea birds.<\/p>\n
