Xie Zhenhua, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), said the government had commissioned a manual on ways to cut emissions and save energy as part of its efforts to transform the everyday lives of Chinese people.<\/p>\n
If every Chinese person took one hour a day to follow the suggestions of the manual, Xie said, the country would save the energy equivalent of 200 million tonnes of coal a year – or 450 million tonnes in carbon emissions.<\/p>\n
Xie also said that although negotiations on technology transfer had not proceeded smoothly, some progress had been made at Bali. The main obstacles were now small, fine-print issues, Xie said, without elaborating further.<\/p>\n
Xie also said that China will continue to develop its nuclear capacity, and expects to increase installed capacity to 40 million kilowatts by 2020.<\/p>\n
