Bush was quoted describing the bill as "a major step toward energy independence and easing global warming".<\/p>\n

Environmentalists were reported as expressing gratitude that the US was finally adopting a number of green polices, but warning the measures were too limited and not due to be implemented for years.<\/p>\n

Other measures in the legislation include a statutory target of a 70% increase in the use of energy efficient light bulbs and improved energy efficiency targets for fridges, freezers and dishwashers.<\/p>\n
