Bertrand Delanoë, the city’s mayor, was quoted as telling French radio that the scheme "could revolutionise transport" in Paris. An advocate of carbon-neutral, green transport, the mayor already has introduced self-service bicycle hire in the city.<\/p>\n

The project’s targeted users include young couples with children who occasionally need a car to shop or travel but who cannot afford to own a vehicle.<\/p>\n

Bids for the project will be sought in the coming weeks. No choice of car model has been made yet, nor has a price for the car hire been set.<\/p>\n
