According to Reuters, the country hopes to open up 6 million<br \/>\nhectares of forest in the province of Papua, which comprises a<br \/>\nmajority part of the western half of the island of New Guinea, to the<br \/>\npalm oil industry. The report comes despite Indonesia&#8217;s earlier<br \/>\npledges to protect its forests with international carbon trading<br \/>\nprojects.<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) reports<br \/>\nthat Indonesia has the fastest deforestation rate in the world, at<br \/>\nalmost 1.9 million hectares per year.<\/p>\n<p>See <a target=\"_blank\"
