{"id":29378,"date":"2011-06-29T14:50:00","date_gmt":"2011-06-29T14:50:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2020-05-14T18:41:31","modified_gmt":"2020-05-14T18:41:31","slug":"4378-virtual-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dialogue.earth\/en\/uncategorized\/4378-virtual-water\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cVirtual Water\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.soas.ac.uk\/staff\/staff30563.php\"><br \/>\nAllan<\/a> distinguishes usefully, too, between &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Virtual_water\">blue water<\/a>&rdquo; (rivers and lakes) versus &ldquo;green water&rdquo; (in plants and soil), the latter hard to cost.<br \/>\n<span><br \/>\nHe considers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibtauris.com\/NewsItems\/Tony%20Allan%20Discusses%20Virtual%20Water.aspx\">water policy<\/a> in Spain, the United States, Egypt and China (in water terms, the one-child policy &ldquo;saved the world&rdquo;, he claims provocatively), and argues that the &ldquo;hydrological mission&rdquo; of irrigation and damming is always wrong, while explaining the connections between water, food and &ldquo;energy security&rdquo;. <br \/>\n<\/span><span><br \/>\nThe book is rather rambling, but it is friendly and clear. I was only saddened to see yet again the story of the poor frog which, according to the clich&eacute;, won&rsquo;t jump out of a slowly heated pan of water.
