{"id":30703,"date":"2013-02-18T10:45:00","date_gmt":"2013-02-18T10:45:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2020-05-14T18:43:23","modified_gmt":"2020-05-14T18:43:23","slug":"5703-video-the-untold-story-of-gas-fracking-in-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dialogue.earth\/en\/energy\/5703-video-the-untold-story-of-gas-fracking-in-the-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Video: the untold story of gas fracking in the US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The rush to exploit shale gas reserves in the US &ndash; and now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chinadialogue.net\/article\/show\/single\/en\/5062-Bill-McKibben-China-should-rethink-gas-fracking\">China<\/a> and Europe&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;could help meet energy needs for a number of years ahead.<\/p>\n<p>However, there have been warning signs that getting the gas&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;through a process known as hydraulic fracturing or &quot;fracking&quot;&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;has a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chinadialogue.net\/article\/show\/single\/en\/4154-Gas-fracking-s-burning-debate-\">negative impacts<\/a>, including water pollution and land rights conflicts. What&#8217;s more, the extraction of the gas may lead to the production of more greenhouse gas emissions than coal.<\/p>\n<p>Many of these problems are highlighted in this short film, produced by The Ecologist\/Link TV, which looked at the impact of the gas fracking boom in Pennsylvania, in north-east US. The film is in English but with Chinese subtitles.<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" height=\"420\" width=\"427\" frameborder=\"0\"
