For this reason, the agency recognises that their participation in decision-making is crucial for recovery and adaptation in the face of climate extremes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are the ones who think about the process of resilience within the territories,\u201d said Alana Manchineri, international advisor to the Coordination of Indigenous Organizations of the Brazilian Amazon (Coiab). \u201cWe are the ones who know all the medicinal plants, who pass on our knowledge to our children and who forge new leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-record-breaking-indigenous-delegation\">Record-breaking Indigenous delegation <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking place in the Amazon, COP30 aims to bring together the <a href=\"https:\/\/cop30.br\/pt-br\/noticias-da-cop30\/brasil-prepara-aldeia-cop-visando-recorde-de-participacao-indigena\">largest Indigenous delegation<\/a> in history. According to Brazil\u2019s minister for Indigenous peoples, Sonia Guajajara, the goal is to secure accreditation for at least 1,000 Indigenous people in the Blue Zone, the official space where negotiations between governments and international delegations take place. These include the <a href=\"https:\/\/cop30.br\/pt-br\/noticias-da-cop30\/cop-30-mostrara-territorios-indigenas-como-parte-do-combate-a-crise-climatica\">Indigenous Peoples\u2019 Circle<\/a>, an official forum for dialogue with leaders; the <a href=\"https:\/\/cop30.br\/pt-br\/noticias-da-cop30\/brasil-prepara-aldeia-cop-visando-recorde-de-participacao-indigena\">COP Village<\/a>, a camp that is expected to receive 3,000 Indigenous people in Bel\u00e9m; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.br\/mma\/pt-br\/noticias\/mma-e-ministerio-das-mulheres-lancam-formacao-sobre-diplomacia-popular-emergencia-climatica-territorios-e-genero\">training<\/a> aimed primarily at women from traditional communities and organisations so that they can participate in international discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, for Indigenous women, getting to Bel\u00e9m will only be the first step. Filac\u2019s Angel explains that \u201ceven when women manage to get to where the conference is being held, it is the men [Indigenous as well as non-Indigenous] who are able to access the Blue Zone\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a class=\"wp-block-cd-related-news alignright block--related-news loading\" data-post-id=\"60084112\"><div class=\"block--related-news__image\"><\/div><div class=\"block--related-news__content\"><span class=\"block--related-news__heading\">Recommended<\/span><span class=\"block--related-news__title\"><\/span><\/div><\/a>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Angel, it is therefore essential to ensure the accreditation of Indigenous women, as well as Indigenous men. But the process, she says, is demanding and time-consuming. Although unofficial and national in scope, the document reflects common agendas of Indigenous peoples around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two demands stand out: that states recognise the Indigenous contribution to mitigating the climate crisis, including the demarcation of territories in their NDCs; and that Indigenous organisations have direct access to climate resources \u2013 of which they currently receive <a href=\"https:\/\/cop30.br\/pt-br\/noticias-da-cop30\/guardioes-da-biodiversidade-brasil-articula-maior-participacao-indigena-da-historia-das-cops\">only 1%<\/a> \u2013 without relying on intermediaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are denied this access on the grounds that we lack technical capacity and human resources,\u201d said Angel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cd-pull-quote block--pull-quote\"><div class=\"block--pull-quote__wrapper\"><blockquote class=\"block--pull-quote__quote\">You cannot talk about health, food sovereignty or quality of life without talking about territory<\/blockquote><cite class=\"block--pull-quote__cite\">Dal\u00ed Angel, project coordinator for the Fund for the Development of Indigenous Peoples in Latin America and the Caribbean<\/cite><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For her, the setbacks in the rights of women, children and Indigenous people make it even more urgent to arrive in Bel\u00e9m with a solid and unified agenda. This mobilisation, she added, goes beyond Latin America and the Caribbean and has reached other sociocultural regions where women Indigenous leaders are now articulating their own agendas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe challenge is to come together to build a common agenda for all of us,\u201d she said.&nbsp; This coordination has materialised in different spaces. At the COP16 biodiversity conference in Colombia last year, the <a href=\"https:\/\/350.org\/pt\/press-release\/organizacoes-indigenas-de-nove-paises-lancam-alianca-inedita-em-defesa-da-amazonia-e-do-clima\/\">Indigenous Amazon G9<\/a> was created, a coalition of organisations from the nine Amazon countries. Our territory is sacred. We will remain organised, mobilised and fighting for justice, wellbeing and the continuity of life on the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Indigenous women, every debate begins with territory. \u201cYou cannot talk about health, food sovereignty or quality of life without talking about territory,\u201d said Angel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manchineri added: \u201cFor us, it is very clear: when our territories are violated, so are all our other rights.\u201d During the August conference, leaders denounced the worsening violence in their lands, linked to the lack of demarcation and the expansion of exploratory ventures. The idea is to help build knowledge within the communities about what the conferences are and how they work, and ultimately build a common agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe need to arrive empowered,
