Quase toda sua produ\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 destinada \u00e0 Europa, ao Jap\u00e3o e aos Estados Unidos por meio da Coopfam, cooperativa que re\u00fane quase 500 agricultores familiares e busca habilita\u00e7\u00e3o para exportar tamb\u00e9m \u00e0 China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nos \u00faltimos anos, por\u00e9m, seu trabalho tem se tornado cada vez mais dif\u00edcil devido \u00e0s mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas. Ele diz que \u201co caf\u00e9 sofreu muito\u201d com a estiagem em 2025, incluindo um hiato de \u201c45 dias sem cair uma gota d\u2019\u00e1gua\u201d. O calor intenso tamb\u00e9m causa estragos. Em seu terreno, folhas de cafeeiros com manchas amarronzadas denunciam a escaldadura, problema provocado por temperaturas altas demais para o cultivo. \u201cAguentar o dia todo embaixo desse sol est\u00e1 ficando dif\u00edcil\u201d, disse ao <em>Dialogue Earth<\/em> em uma tarde quente de janeiro no cafezal que plantou aos 14 anos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Produtores brasileiros j\u00e1 v\u00eam tentando fazer ajustes ap\u00f3s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rabobank.com\/knowledge\/q011508199-ground-for-concern-climate-impacts-on-arabica-coffee-yields-in-brazil\">cinco colheitas<\/a> consecutivas de caf\u00e9 ar\u00e1bica afetadas por eventos clim\u00e1ticos, como ondas de calor, secas e geadas. Um <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0048969723063805\">estudo<\/a> publicado em 2024 indica que, com o avan\u00e7o do aquecimento e do estresse h\u00eddrico, entre 35% e 75% das \u00e1reas atualmente cultivadas com caf\u00e9 ar\u00e1bica no Brasil podem se tornar economicamente invi\u00e1veis at\u00e9 o fim do s\u00e9culo, exigindo investimentos crescentes global mais restrita. Eventos clim\u00e1ticos extremos em <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/commodities\/brazils-coffee-stockpiles-dwindle-prices-hit-record-highs-2025-03-03\/\">grandes produtores<\/a>, como secas no Brasil e inunda\u00e7\u00f5es no Vietn\u00e3, reduziram a produ\u00e7\u00e3o e os estoques, elevando os pre\u00e7os, enquanto o consumo continua a crescer <a href=\"https:\/\/dialogue.earth\/pt-br\/alimentos\/demanda-chinesa-cafe-brasileiro-pequenos-produtores\/\">na China<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mesmo com um volume cerca de 20% menor <a href=\"https:\/\/agenciabrasil.ebc.com.br\/economia\/noticia\/2026-01\/exportacao-de-cafe-do-brasil-cai-em-2025-mas-bate-recorde-em-receita\">embarcado<\/a> entre 2024 e 2025, o Brasil registrou receita de US$ 15,5 bilh\u00f5es em exporta\u00e7\u00f5es no \u00faltimo ano, recorde da s\u00e9rie hist\u00f3rica iniciada em 1990. Ao mesmo tempo, o aumento das temperaturas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/commodities\/brazils-coffee-farmers-turn-costly-irrigation-quench-global-demand-brew-2025-03-31\/?\">eleva<\/a> os custos de produ\u00e7\u00e3o, com maiores gastos em irriga\u00e7\u00e3o e controle de pragas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-regiao-movida-pelo-cafe\">Regi\u00e3o movida pelo caf\u00e9<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Po\u00e7o Fundo, com 16 mil habitantes, tem na agricultura familiar o motor da economia. N\u00e3o \u00e9 t\u00e3o uniforme como era\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEst\u00e1 assim em praticamente todas as lavouras da \u00e1rea\u201d, afirma Alexander Ferreira, engenheiro agr\u00f4nomo e t\u00e9cnico da Coopfam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nos \u00faltimos quatro anos, produtores aplicaram mais de R$ 40 milh\u00f5es em cr\u00e9dito federal na recupera\u00e7\u00e3o de lavouras de caf\u00e9, quase todo o valor em Minas Gerais, onde as mudan\u00e7as no clima j\u00e1 alteram o calend\u00e1rio e o rendimento da produ\u00e7\u00e3o. valoriza\u00e7\u00e3o do caf\u00e9, puxada pela alta internacional e queda na oferta, trouxe alguma compensa\u00e7\u00e3o aos produtores afetados pelo clima. Segundo Ferreira, da Coopfam, a saca do caf\u00e9 convencional chegou a R$ 2,3 mil em 2025, mais que o dobro do valor em 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-producao-organica\">Produ\u00e7\u00e3o org\u00e2nica<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Os custos para manter a produtividade diante das mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas v\u00eam aumentando, reduzindo os ganhos reais. Em Po\u00e7o Fundo, ela cultiva 5,5 hectares para a linha org\u00e2nica de caf\u00e9 da Coopfam, cuja produ\u00e7\u00e3o <a href=\"https:\/\/repositorio.unifal-mg.edu.br\/server\/api\/core\/bitstreams\/f11e5920-0d9e-48ca-8bd8-ade1f1653994\/content\">pode custar<\/a> at\u00e9 30% mais que a do sistema convencional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por outro lado, a demanda aquecida tem levado produtores a priorizar ganhos r\u00e1pidos de produtividade, migrando do cultivo org\u00e2nico para o convencional. Na Coopfam, por exemplo, o n\u00famero de cooperados org\u00e2nicos caiu quase 60% em dois anos, para 75 cafeicultores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cO produtor vive da terra aqui na regi\u00e3o, ent\u00e3o tem a quest\u00e3o da sustentabilidade econ\u00f4mica\u201d, diz Ferreira.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ele acredita que o caf\u00e9 org\u00e2nico voltar\u00e1 a ser financeiramente mais vantajoso quando a oferta de gr\u00e3os se estabilizar no mercado, o que pode ocorrer j\u00e1 nesta safra. Condi\u00e7\u00f5es clim\u00e1ticas mais est\u00e1veis neste ano levaram a Conab, respons\u00e1vel pelas estat\u00edsticas e pol\u00edticas de abastecimento agr\u00edcola do governo, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.br\/conab\/pt-br\/assuntos\/noticias\/primeira-estimativa-da-conab-aponta-para-uma-producao-de-cafe-de-66-2-milhoes-de-sacas-de-cafe-em-2026\">projetar<\/a> para 2026 uma safra recorde na s\u00e9rie hist\u00f3rica iniciada em 2001: 66 milh\u00f5es de sacas de caf\u00e9, quase metade produzida em Minas Gerais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rosana Mendes e Avair de Oliveira migraram em 2025 do sistema org\u00e2nico para o convencional, mas dizem aplicar defensivos apenas em gram\u00edneas e capins, n\u00e3o nos cafeeiros. Jo\u00e3o Ademir Pereira, de 58 anos, plantou ip\u00eas, pereiras, cambuc\u00e1s e jabuticabas-amarelas em um ter\u00e7o dos tr\u00eas hectares que cultiva. \u201cAs \u00e1rvores ajudam a equilibrar o clima e a suavizar o sol\u201d, diz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 sombra, os cafeeiros produzem todos os anos; sem prote\u00e7\u00e3o, tendem a alternar uma safra alta com outra baixa, comportamento t\u00edpico do ar\u00e1bica. Chuvas irregulares e temperaturas acima da m\u00e9dia favorecem sua dissemina\u00e7\u00e3o, mas estudos indicam que frutos e flores de \u00e1rvores plantadas entre os cafeeiros atraem vespas predadoras que ajudam a conter a infesta\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPrecisamos incentivar os pequenos produtores, porque s\u00e3o os mais vulner\u00e1veis \u00e0s mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas\u201d, diz L\u00eada Gon\u00e7alves, engenheira agr\u00f4noma e professora do instituto.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A mais de mil metros de altitude, a neblina e o orvalho da manh\u00e3 refrescam os cafeeiros de Douglas Lago, em Santa Rita de Caldas, cidade vizinha a Po\u00e7o Fundo. Com planos de iniciar exporta\u00e7\u00f5es, sua fam\u00edlia converteu tr\u00eas hectares de uma pastagem degradada em cafezal para a nova safra, que se somam aos seis hectares j\u00e1 cultivados com ar\u00e1bica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por\u00e9m, al\u00e9m do calor e da seca, o frio em excesso tamb\u00e9m amea\u00e7a a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de caf\u00e9. Em 2021, uma <a href=\"https:\/\/prp.unicamp.br\/inscricao-congresso\/resumos\/2023P22256A39005O2311.pdf\">geada severa<\/a> matou 60% dos dez mil p\u00e9s da fam\u00edlia. Nos \u00faltimos dois ciclos, a fam\u00edlia alcan\u00e7ou produtividade equivalente ao dobro da m\u00e9dia nacional. No ano passado, <a href=\"https:\/\/coccamig.com.br\/12o-concurso-de-cafes-especiais-coccamig\/#\">venceu<\/a> o concurso de caf\u00e9s especiais das cooperativas de Minas Gerais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Outra alternativa ainda pouco explorada na regi\u00e3o \u00e9 a agrofloresta, que busca reproduzir o ambiente natural do caf\u00e9 ar\u00e1bica, nativo das terras altas tropicais da Eti\u00f3pia. Ao se mudar para o s\u00edtio em Po\u00e7o Fundo h\u00e1 quatro anos, encontrou um cafezal convencional, onde o propriet\u00e1rio anterior usava agrot\u00f3xicos e adubos qu\u00edmicos.
