Write for Dialogue Earth
Dialogue Earth is an independent non-profit platform dedicated to bringing compelling environmental stories from local voices to audiences around the world. We publish reporting, opinion and analysis in English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Urdu, Nepali, and Bengali.
We welcome pitches for articles between 1,000 and 1,500 words from journalists and experts. We will work with writers to develop their stories and do not accept pre-written pieces.
Please review the information on this page as well as our recently published articles and choose one editor listed below to email your pitch to. We endeavour to respond promptly to all pitches, but please allow two weeks before sending a follow-up and if your pitch is time-sensitive indicate this in the subject line.
Journalists
Please send a brief initial outline of no more than 300 words to one of the editors listed below. This should be a specific pitch for a story, rather than a broad idea or a topic. Suggestions for multimedia elements, including photographs, illustrations and infographics, are welcome as are pitches for cross-publication, collaboration and partnership with other outlets and organisations. Fees for journalism are based on competitive market rates in the author’s region. Please send a CV and/or examples of previous work if you have not written for Dialogue Earth before.
Please ensure your pitch includes:
- What is the story and why is it important?
- What’s new and why is it timely to cover now?
- What specific multimedia (photography, graphics, maps, etc) is required
- Who will you interview to ensure balance and different perspectives?
- How does this fit with Dialogue Earth’s areas of focus?
Non-journalists
We welcome contributions from academics, policymakers, activists and other experts. Please send an outline of no more than 300 words to one of the editors listed below, setting out what you want to say to our audience and why your experience is relevant to deliver that message. We do not normally pay for expert opinion pieces.

Our global areas of interest include, but are not limited to: climate, business, pollution, energy, nature, food, oceans, forests, justice, and water. In addition, our editorial team cover the following specific topics and regions. If you are not sure who to approach, please choose one editor from your region and they will forward your pitch if they are not the most appropriate person to deal with it.
China (Lin Zi)
Climate and environmental issues with a special focus on China, including but not limited to China’s energy transition, global footprint, role in global climate governance, climate diplomacy, biodiversity, ocean and agriculture.
Asia Pacific (Amanda Lago)
Climate change, water, nature and wildlife, Indigenous communities, pollution, sustainable development, energy and trans-boundary cooperation across South Asia and Southeast Asia, with a focus on the Himalayan Watershed.
South Asia (Amanda Lago)
The ecology and political economy of the Himalayan region, and the transboundary river basins of the Indus, Ganga, and Brahmaputra.

Southeast Asia – Mekong region (Tyler Roney)
Environmental concerns in mainland Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Vietnam involving hydropower, conservation, renewable energy technology and resources, waste and recycling, infrastructure projects, domestic and municipal policy, lasting effects of climate change, energy transition policy, air pollution, agriculture, and plastic pollution.
Southeast Asia – Malay Archipelago (Fidelis Satriastanti)
Electric power and clean energy, agriculture, infrastructure and extractives, waste and recycling, conservation and protected areas, tourism and SEZs, environmental and social impacts of Chinese investment, Indigenous peoples and local communities
