Industry in northwest China exacerbates pollution in Yellow river

Industry along the banks of the Yellow River in northwest China's Gansu province has become a major source of water pollution in the river, according to a report in the Peoples' Daily.

Gansu government has put aside a total of 65.1 million yuan (US $8.2 million) for pollution control in 2006. Cleaning up industry along the Yellow River to ensure that the levels of pollution in the river do not rise further is a top priority.
