Villagers in southwest China pollution clash

Residents in the village of Xingquan, Yunnan province, fought with workers from a cement plant after they complained that the factory was polluting local water supplies, state media said.

Six villagers were wounded and thirteen vehicles damaged after 300 villagers and factory employees from the Gaoyuan Building Materials Company clashed on Monday, Xinhua news agency said. Police have arrested 107 people suspected of fighting. 

The Xingquan residents complained that the company had moved old, polluting production equipment near the village after it was shut down for pollution elsewhere, the report added.
