The announcement from the State Environmental Protection Administration is in line with the Montreal Protocol, which aims to gradually phase out the use of ozone-depleting chemicals around the world.
China signed the protocol in 1991, binding the country to stop producing CFCs starting from 1999.
"Relevant companies must demolish equipment involved in the production of CFC substances by Aug. 15," the notice added.
