China's major cities will ban cement mixing at construction sites as part of an effort to promote energy efficiency, Xinhua reported the Ministry of Commerce as announcing on Wednesday.

Ten cities will start carrying out the plan from September 1, and another 117 cities will join in over the following two years, the
report said.
Vice minister of commerce Jiang Zengwei said the country will phase out bag-packed cement for concrete mixers by promoting the use of bulk cement and dried mortar, which can be directly used as building materials when mixed with water.
The move will not only improve energy efficiency, but also reduce noise and air pollution in the cities, said Jiang.
