Officials have hailed preparations for Wipha, which was downgraded from a typhoon to a tropical storm on Wednesday after making landfall in Zhejiang province, saying the number of casualties was reduced by effective planning and forecasts.
"Up to now only five people have died from landslides triggered by the heavy rain. The number of casualties is rare in history," Xinhua quoted Zheng Guoguang, head of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), as saying on Thursday.
