SEPA targets exporters on pollution

China's top environmental watchdog will set its sights on the country's booming export business, stopping companies from "sacrificing the environment" in their search for profits, agencies reported on Tuesday.

The State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) was reported as saying it will track the environmental costs of China’s exporters, and its regional branches will share this information with China’s Ministry of Commerce.

Zhang Lijun, a SEPA deputy director, was quoted as saying that China is trying to create a system in which prices, taxation, credit, trade and land use could be used to benefit the environment.
