The UK government wants to block the EU renewables directive, which would give green sources of power priority access to the national grid, the report said. The directive is intended to support a European target to generate 20% of energy from renewable sources by 2020.
Last month, UK ministers launched a renewables strategy on how to meet the country’s share of the EU target, which requires Britain to generate 15% of its energy from clean sources. This included steps on "removing grid access as a barrier to renewables deployment."
