Hansen plans to use unprecedented interest in the US elections to campaign on college campuses for a ban on coal-fired power plants that do not capture climate-warming carbon emissions.
Hansen, who remains critical of the action taken by US and international leaders to address the environmental crisis, emphasises that students must remain skeptical about candidates’ rhetoric, regardless of their political party.
"Even in those places where we thought politicians were the greenest, in many cases it’s a case of green-wash, where they’re saying the
right words but their actions don’t correspond," Hansen told Associated Press news agency.
