Video: Local residents in Zhenjiang count the cost of polluting textile industry

For residents of Zhenjiang province, in East China, the textile industry has brought both economic development and toxic pollution

In recent years, the printing and dyeing industries in parts of China’s Zhejiang province have played a significant role in economic development. But they have also polluted the Qiantang River. 

Everyday, hundreds of thousands of tonnes of industrial waste-water, containing a variety of carcinogens, are pumped into the river. This short film below, provided by Greenpeace East Asia, shows both the environmental and human health costs.
