China reports progress on cutting pollution, but ‘not enough’

China is making progress in improving energy efficiency and cutting pollution emissions, but not enough is being done, agencies reported an official as saying on Thursday.

"The results of our energy consumption and emission reduction (efforts) are starting to show," Xie Zhenhua, deputy head of China’s top planning body the National Development Reform Commission, was quoted as saying.

"But the situation is still grave… we have not yet completely reached our targets and if this trend doesn’t reverse, it will have a great impact on our… goals," he added.
